Ugly Ducklings

The emerging stems and fiddleheads of many ferns are pretty strange looking.  Some are quite ugly.  Luckily these ugly ducklings quickly transform themselves into a beautiful swans with leaves that add lush and dramatic accents to my Hamptons garden in the summer.
